I really don't get how people pay upfront for such.game attempts. Ofc these people will say they don't care about graphics for example, but cmon.it's 2018 and those companies are making games that look like they come from 2005. If they only make them for the 30+ year old dudes who simply feel nostalgic, ignoring that newer generations of players actually care about how a game looks, then those games are doomed from now. Gamers are mostly young people, and even if that tendention will slow down, it will never be any different. I feel like Pantheon for example is made by old dudes for old dudes. Even if the gameplay is amazing, how well do you think it will do if it only focuses on attracting a very very small playerbase?
Meh, that's why Asian games are so popular. They are beautiful and fluid, all they lack is our preferance for the actual ingame content and monetisation. That's why our only hope for good MMOs are big companies with talanted designers from the West (take amazon, blizzard, valve, even EA etc).
We won't get the next great MMOs by kickstarter companies and it is really sad people don't get it. I don't say there should not be attempts, but they cannot ask people for money in advance - that's just crazy and it works now only because people are desperate. God knows when one of the giants will decide to make a new game for us. Except most people supporting crowdfunded games are doing so because they know they won't get the next great MMO from a big company - the reason the MMO genre is shit because the same crappy gameplay has been thrown at us for over a decade. Fast Food for the Masses to maximise profit is all you will ever get from the so called big companies. 'The Giants' are never going to make a new game for 'us' they are going to make a new game for them and their wallets - meaning solo quest grindfest to end game,handful of shitty instance dungeons and a handy LFG tool so that you can feel like you are still soloing but with NPCs helping.
Then some raids so that there is some content where people actually have to communicate so that they can justifiably claim its an MMO. Finally a cash shop that definitely is not p2w, only 'pay for convenience'.which can mean pretty much anything goes.So for all those that have hated the last 10+ years of crap MMOs, a game made by old dudes for old dudes is exactly what they are looking for, or any of the attempted games at least trying to make an actual MMO rather than a glorified lobby game.
