Hello all,I've been adding to the Airblades entry on the wiki but I'm hardly an expert. Could some other players with more experience with flying vehicles please add to it? Things I'm not sure about are:What is the top speed of small airblade craft? What is the top speed of large airblade craft? I can only get crawling 16.1 but not sure if more airblades improve thatWhat is the best way to prevent the vehicle from tipping over in the air?More images showing possible aircraft configurations would be helpfulWhat is the best configuration regarding steering? For wide can the craft be before the blades are too far apart for flight? I currently have the vehicle at 6 ceiling panels-worth apartWhat are the rules regards weight-airblade ratio?
Especially with flying basesThanks. Originally posted by Robot Warrior:What is the top speed of small airblade craft?72 km/hWhat is the top speed of large airblade craft?I think it's 36 km/h. But I'm not sure; I don't use them often because they are so slow. What is the best way to prevent the vehicle from tipping over in the air?I'd say keep it balanced and keep the center of mass low. Moving the blades further out also helps. What is the best configuration regarding steering?Depends on the craft and how you want it to move. Generally, have the blades in front move in steering direction and the ones in the back against. For wide can the craft be before the blades are too far apart for flight? I currently have the vehicle at 6 ceiling panels-worth apartWidth doesn't really matter.
As long as the vehicle doesn't get too heavy, you can place the air blades as far apart as you like. What are the rules regards weight-airblade ratio? Especially with flying basesI don't know any numbers. My rule is, if the vehicle doesn't climb or is too slow, add more air blades.:). Originally posted by:Need to test the changes in the new version 0.9.7.3 first, because my flying mobile base with small airblades can now reach about 410m high on a 24km planet and before that, it would go only up to about 250m.Isn't max height dependent on multiple planet settings, diameter and - um, what's it called - roughness? To avoid tipping over, center of mass should be between or under the airblades, never higher than them. You may get it flying otherwise, but eventually you'll manage to topple it and with a center of mass above the blades, it's almost impossible to turn it right side up again.
Originally posted by:As for size and airblade width and such, I've found no limit so far. This ship has 88 large airblades, 4 wide on either side of a corridor, and 11 rows deep.Even given the weight, as the airblades are fully enclosed between ceiling tiles, and carries 6 large containers, 6 med printers, 2 FADs, 2 refineries, 4 Ugen, 4 large Dgen, and lots of my smaller aircraft, it still gets 22 mph.
Is it flying completely level? Did you try tilting it a bit?A fun design. Too bad we can't build clean triangles.;).
Originally posted by:Not sure what you mean by tilting it.Flyers need to be tilted forward slightly to reach max speed. I meant it might be faster if not completely level. But it's incredible what everyone has been able to create inspite of that.Absolutely. I love browsing the workshop just to see all the creativity.Ah. Well this craft doesnt seem too at max speed, or even accelerating to it. Of course it's pretty big and the 88 blades produce a lot of power. And as I designed it as a flight deck for smaller craft I prefer that it doesn't. That is intersting tho.
