Submitted on Review title of DeRo FlameRepetitive, but fun.While a 'twin stick' control style option like Smash TV and Robotron 2084 would have been nice, it's not essential enough to go beyond a straight port of the original, which was not made for a system that uses two joysticks per player; as long as you hold the fire button down, your aim stays in the same direction regardless of which way you move until you release it so you can still 'strafe' while you fire.

You also get bonuses for close-range kills. The deaths are also kinda gory with the blood set to on. The story is a run-of-the-mill 'save a girl from a villainous egomaniac hell-bent on world domination and/or destruction' plot, which is kinda dumb, but it gets the job done, and the cut-scenes are pretty good if you can stand seeing a Sheriff-of-Nottingham look-alike with a spiky beard and no mustache. I'd say more, but there's a 1,000 character limit, and the other reviews cover almost everything else about this game. The only real negative is the controls are really 'off' You'd think a game like Shock Troopers would mimic classics like Smash tv or Total Carnage using the twin shooters mechanic it does Not! It copies the same controler layout as Nam 1975. Which doesn't break the game but, it effects the fun factor.

I'm sure they did this at Arcades to squeeze every last quarter/token from kids! On a home console this re-release could use controller options. If you enjoy retro throw-backs you'll enjoy it but, its hard to love since the logical way it should have been ported was not implemented into a solid Arcade title that could've been flawless as of now its above average 8.8/10.
