Nicalis revealed the cover art for the physical release of their action side-scrolling game Tiny Barbarian DX, coming to Nintendo Switch in Q4 2017 for $39.99.
The artwork, created by Famitsu Artist Susumu Matsushita, displays a triumphant barbarian as he saves the girl and bravely awaits encounters of monstrous foes. Matsushita-san has worked on hundreds of issues of Famitsu in Japan. He is also the creator of Famitsu’s mascot, Necky the Fox, who was playable in Super Mario Maker as a costume.

Tiny Barbarian DX features side-scrolling action mechanics set in a retro graphical style. Players must navigate through multiple levels in which they will encounter their fair share of difficult enemies. It currently holds a “Very Positive” review standing on the Steam platform from users. After seeing gameplay footage and studying the production art created by StarQuail Games, Matsushita-san agreed that his character rendering style would be perfect for the game’s box art. “Tiny Barbarian DX is a game I’d like to play,” he says, “and it’s been a while since I felt that!”
Tiny Barbarian DXLastfight. was originally launched in 2013 for PC. The Nintendo Switch version will be the first physical release for the game and will include a full-color manual that describes Matsushita-san’s creative process.
